Invasion Genomics

26/12/2021

Non-indigenous species (NIS) are having enormous detrimental effects on ecosystems, commerce, agriculture, and human health. I am primarily interested in marine invasions with the goal to understand the genetic mechanisms behind success or failure during the establishment of a species in its non-native habitat, and how genomics can contribute to the management of NIS.

I am a novice in this field and there is much to learn. I am working on a pilot genetic project of the invasive pink salmon in Arctic Norway, where we set out to examining the patterns of genetic diversity and differentiation in founding populations while creating a genomics-proficient workforce for later large-scale work.
